Problems are an issue type in Jira that Sparkr uses to help you take a structured approach to innovation. A problem should be something that your customers (i.e. a Persona) are experiencing or could do so in the future. Problems should be defined and validates before deciding on whether to solve them by formulating one or more Possibilities.

Navigation

When viewing a problem you can quickly navigate key features of Sparkr by using the in-app navigation. This navigation is accessed by expanding the collapsible menu in the top-right of embedded app sections.

Problem - Nav Menu.webm

Create Problem

  • Problem Space: Best-practice is to create a new problem from the problem space (Jira project) you would like to associate it with, for example here a problem is created from the “marketing” problem space.

  • Create from Board: It is not best-practice, but users can also create a problem from the Problem Space board. This is a two-step process, as you need to create the problem, and then re-edit the problem for the specific Sparkr details.

Update Problem

  • Once you have created the Problem, you can now update the Sparkr problem details by clicking on the Sparkr icon.

  • You will complete both the “Define” and “Validate” tabs for the Problem

  • Note: hover over the (info) to see an explanation for the field. Also “SMS” in the example below is “text messages.”

It is important to understand you “complete” the Problem by answering the question, “should this be solved?” in the Validate tab. This answer will determine if you then move on to detail a Possibility to solve the Problem.
